In this edition of W-Connect, the newsletter of WSM to highlight the activities of the Asia Network on the Right to Social Protection (ANRSP), we look at the Corona crisis and what the WSM partners are doing in various countries in Asia. Completely on their own initiative, none of partners could simply idly stand by, even without any formal projects or guaranteed funding. Each with their own approach mobilised members and resources, volunteered, organized and shared among their specific groups. This includes health workers on the front lines in the Philippines, migrant and garment workers in Indonesia, informal and domestic workers in India and many more. To support them in these endeavors in these unprecedented times, WSM partners can re-allocate up to 20% of the 2020 budget to Corona related activities.
Today, some 2 billion people work in the informal economy; more than 1.6 billion of them are affected by the lockdown, particularly in terms of income.
The work of journalists is regarded as an essential service during this emergency
