In the shade of Angkor Wat

How an attempt to form a union resulted in mass lay offs and intimidation.

Five months after they were fired for trying to establish a union, 67 employees of the Angkor Village Hotel in Camodia continue to demonstrate daily at the the entrance of the hotel to challenge their dismissal. They are supportd by CTSWF, the tourism union of CLC, trade union partner of World Solidarity and ACV in Cambodja. The hotel owners simply ignored the court's verdict to annul the lay-off.

Joining forces with the international food federation IUF, World Solidarty and ACV are protesting against the illegal dismissal with the Cambodian Minister of Tourism, the Cambodian Council of Ministers and the owners of the five star hotel. The protest is especially directed against the fraudulent course of action, as it now appears that the dirstrict court suddenly changed it's verdict without any new evidence declaring the dismissal as lawful . The agency that should protect the world heritage site of Angkor Wat, which is probably the most important tourist site in Cambodia, has used it's "heritage police" on the workers in order to nip the protest in the bud. We do not tolerate this abuse and show of foce at the expense of the employees! Please, support the international protest.
