International actions

With 'international actions' we refer to the international advocacy work of World Solidarity, which aims to put decent work, social protection and job creation on the international political agenda.

This policy work can take diferent shapes:

research and formlation of policy recommendations, capacity building of partners in the South, awareness raising campaigns about certain labour related themes in North and South, networking and elaborating joint actions with related organisations and finally influencing  policy and lobby towards policy makers or companies.

Sometimes we refer to this international policy work in terms of 'Action Social Alert'. All international actions are based on the work and reality of the partner organisations in the South.

We work on three levels:

1. At national level: support to the political work of the partner organisations

• by denouncing violations of labour rights at nationa and/or international level;
• by looking for solutions to the problems partner organisations face.

2. At regional level: stimulate cooperation between partner organisation around a specific theme

In each continent World Solidarity supports coordinated actions, organised and supported by a number of our partner organisations. They chose the common theme on which they want to collaborate and the most suitable action plan. The political work is always an essential part of their cooperation. World Solidarity supports especially this joint political work.

  • In Africa, partner organisations have united on the topic of social protection,
  • In Asia, they are working on the excessive use of short-term contracts in the clothing industry,
  • In Latin-America, the focus is on women's labour rights,
  • In all three continents, partner organisations have united on the topic of Domestic Work.

3. At international level: advocacy work towards international institutions

Wolrd Solidarity wants to put decent work, social protection and job creation on the international agenda. Therefore, it does advocacy work towards representatives of the regional organisations and international institutions. Baring in mind the theme, the International Labour Organisation plays a key role. To have even more influence on the policy of these institutions, World Solidarity works together with international networks, such as
